Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Beat the Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed for about 2–3 minutes until light and creamy.
  2. Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure a smooth consistency.
  3. Incorporate Flavorings: Add the vanilla extract and salt to the mixture, blending to evenly distribute the flavor.
  4. Add Cream: Pour in 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk and beat on high speed for 2–3 minutes until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.
  5. Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
  6. Use or Store: Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • For a whiter buttercream, use clear vanilla extract instead of traditional vanilla extract.
  • This frosting can be tinted with gel food coloring for custom decorating.
  • Store leftover frosting tightly covered in the refrigerator and bring to room temperature before using again.
