Frosting Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Beat the Butter: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed for about 2–3 minutes until light and creamy.
- Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure a smooth consistency.
- Incorporate Flavorings: Add the vanilla extract and salt to the mixture, blending to evenly distribute the flavor.
- Add Cream: Pour in 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk and beat on high speed for 2–3 minutes until the frosting is fluffy and smooth.
- Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add more cream 1 teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
- Use or Store: Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Notes
- For a whiter buttercream, use clear vanilla extract instead of traditional vanilla extract.
- This frosting can be tinted with gel food coloring for custom decorating.
- Store leftover frosting tightly covered in the refrigerator and bring to room temperature before using again.
