Description

This recipe features perfectly seared tuna steaks served with a rich and creamy garlic sauce, accompanied by a fresh and vibrant mixed greens salad. Quick to prepare and full of flavor, it’s an ideal healthy dinner option that highlights Mediterranean-inspired ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

Tuna Steaks

  • 2 fresh tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley

Salad

  • 4 cups mixed salad greens
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes (halved)
  • ½ cucumber (sliced)
  • ¼ red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinaigrette

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tuna steaks: Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides evenly with salt and black pepper.
  2. Sear the tuna: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the tuna steaks for 2 to 3 minutes on each side for medium-rare. Adjust the searing time if you prefer your tuna cooked differently. Remove the tuna steaks from the pan and set aside.
  3. Make the creamy garlic sauce: Lower the heat to medium and add the butter to the same skillet. Sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute until it becomes fragrant but not browned. Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice, then let the sauce simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes until it thickens slightly. Stir in the chopped fresh parsley.
  4. Warm the tuna in the sauce: Return the tuna steaks briefly to the pan to warm through, or simply spoon the creamy garlic sauce over the tuna when plating.
  5. Prepare the salad: In a bowl, toss together the mixed salad greens, halved cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and thinly sliced red onion with the balsamic vinaigrette to coat evenly.
  6. Serve: Plate the tuna steaks with the creamy garlic sauce and serve alongside the fresh mixed salad. Enjoy your balanced and flavorful meal.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free alternative, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream.
  • Adjust the searing time to achieve your preferred tuna doneness.
  • Add avocado or crumbled feta cheese to the salad for extra richness and texture.
