Ingredients
Scale
Main Puppy Chow Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Chex Cereal
- 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup strawberry jam
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup dried strawberries (for garnish)
Dried Strawberries
- Fresh strawberries (quantity as desired, thinly sliced for drying)
Instructions
- Prepare the Puppy Chow Mixture: Combine the white chocolate chips, strawberry jam, and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
- Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex cereal inside a large brown paper grocery bag or a large zip-top plastic bag. Seal the bag and shake it thoroughly to evenly coat all the cereal pieces.
- Add the Powdered Sugar: Sprinkle the powdered sugar over the chocolate-coated cereal inside the bag. Seal and shake the bag again until the cereal is well coated in powdered sugar.
- Garnish: Garnish the coated puppy chow with additional white chocolate chips and dried strawberries for an extra burst of flavor and visual appeal.
- Dry the Strawberries: Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C). Thinly slice fresh strawberries and arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the Strawberries: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the strawberries for 2 hours or more, rotating the pan every 30 minutes to ensure even drying. Flip the slices after the first hour. The strawberries should be dry and no longer moist when fully done.
Notes
- Be sure to stir the melting chocolate mixture between microwave intervals to prevent it from burning.
- Use either a brown paper bag or a zip-top plastic bag for shaking the coated cereal, whichever is more convenient.
- If you don’t have time to dry fresh strawberries, you can substitute with store-bought dried strawberries.
- Store the finished puppy chow in an airtight container to keep it fresh and crunchy.
- This recipe is easily doubled or halved depending on your serving needs.
