These Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Avocado Crema are a flavorful and satisfying meal that’s perfect for a quick and delicious dinner. The combination of spicy shrimp, creamy avocado crema, and fresh toppings creates a taco that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

For the shrimp:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the avocado crema:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste

Optional toppings:

  • Shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Diced red onion
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: In a bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  2. Cook the shrimp: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque.
  3. Make the avocado crema: Blend the avocado, sour cream, lime juice, garlic, and salt in a food processor or blender until smooth and creamy.
  4. Warm the tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.
  5. Assemble the tacos: Spread avocado crema on each tortilla, add shrimp, and top with cabbage, cilantro, red onion, and a squeeze of lime.

Notes

  • For added crunch, use pickled onions or shredded radish.
  • You can make the avocado crema up to a day in advance and store it in the fridge with plastic wrap pressed directly on the surface to prevent browning.
