Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the molasses and egg until fully combined.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Shape Dough: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
  7. Roll in Sugar: Roll each ball in granulated sugar and place on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake: Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  9. Cool: Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
