Ingredients
Scale
Main Batter
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
Topping and Sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups hot water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the baking pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking pan, spreading it evenly to coat the base.
- Mix the batter: In a large bowl, combine whole milk, vanilla extract, and granulated sugar. Whisk together until smooth. Gradually add all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir gently until all ingredients are well combined into a smooth batter.
- Assemble the cobbler: Spoon the batter evenly over the melted butter in the prepared baking pan, spreading it out to cover the surface.
- Add brown sugar: Sprinkle the 1/2 cup of brown sugar evenly over the batter layer in the pan.
- Pour hot water carefully: Slowly and carefully pour the 2 cups of hot water over the batter and brown sugar. Do not stir. This step allows a rich, sweet sauce to form underneath the cobbler as it bakes.
- Bake the cobbler: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes. The cobbler is done when the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
- Add cinnamon sugar topping: While the cobbler is still warm, mix together 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 tsp ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the cobbler for added sweetness and flavor.
- Cool and serve: Let the cobbler cool for about 5 minutes before serving. For extra indulgence, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
- Be sure not to stir after pouring the hot water to create the signature cobbler sauce beneath the batter.
- Use a 9×13-inch baking pan for even cooking and proper depth.
- Adjust the cinnamon sugar topping to your taste for more or less sweetness.
- Serve warm to enjoy the gooey texture and rich flavor.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated before serving.
