Ingredients
Scale
Spinach Filling
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 ½ cups fresh spinach, chopped
- ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Cheese Mixture
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Dough and Finishing
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prepare for baking.
- Prepare the Spinach Filling: Heat olive oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant to bring out its aroma.
- Cook Spinach: Add the chopped spinach to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted. Season with salt, pepper, and dried Italian seasoning for balanced flavor.
- Cool Spinach: Remove the pan from heat and allow the cooked spinach to cool for a few minutes to avoid melting the cheese mixture later.
- Make the Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, and grated Parmesan. Fold in the cooled spinach mixture thoroughly, then taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Assemble the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface and separate into individual triangles to prepare for stuffing.
- Add Filling: Place a generous spoonful of the spinach and cheese mixture onto the center of each triangle to ensure even filling.
- Roll Crescents: Roll each triangle from the wide end to the narrow end to form crescent shapes, enclosing the filling securely.
- Apply Egg Wash (Optional): Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush a thin layer over each crescent roll to achieve a golden, glossy finish when baked.
- Arrange for Baking: Place the stuffed crescent rolls on the prepared baking sheet, spaced evenly to allow for expansion.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and flaky.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool briefly. Serve warm, optionally with marinara sauce for dipping, making a perfect appetizer or snack.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add finely chopped onions or sun-dried tomatoes to the spinach mixture.
- If you prefer a vegetarian option, ensure the crescent roll dough is vegetarian-friendly.
- Egg wash is optional but gives the rolls a beautiful golden-brown crust.
- Use fresh spinach for best texture and flavor; frozen spinach can be used if thoroughly drained and pressed.
- These crescent rolls can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking; just increase baking time by a few minutes if baking chilled rolls.
