Description

Rainbow Jello Eggs are a vibrant and fun dessert perfect for Easter or any festive occasion. These colorful gelatin eggs are layered with different fruit-flavored gelatins, creating a beautiful rainbow effect. Made by carefully setting each layer in egg-shaped molds, they offer a playful presentation and a sweet, refreshing taste.

Ingredients

Scale

Gelatin Layers

  • 1 package cherry gelatin (3 ounces)
  • 1 package orange gelatin (3 ounces)
  • 1 package lemon gelatin (3 ounces)
  • 1 package lime gelatin (3 ounces)
  • 1 package berry blue gelatin (3 ounces)

Liquids

  • 5 cups boiling water, divided
  • 5 cups cold water, divided

Additional

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Plastic egg molds or empty clean eggshell molds

Instructions

  1. Prepare Molds: Lightly coat the inside of plastic egg molds or clean eggshell molds with nonstick cooking spray to ensure easy removal of the gelatin eggs.
  2. Dissolve Gelatin: Dissolve one package of gelatin in 1 cup boiling water by stirring until completely dissolved. Stir in 1 cup cold water and mix well.
  3. Pour First Layer: Carefully pour a small layer of the gelatin mixture into each mold. Place the molds in the refrigerator and chill for about 20 to 30 minutes until the gelatin layer is set but still slightly tacky to the touch.
  4. Repeat Layering: Repeat the dissolving, mixing, and pouring process with each remaining gelatin flavor one at a time, allowing each layer to partially set before adding the next layer to create distinct, colorful layers.
  5. Final Setting: After all layers have been added, refrigerate the molds for at least 3 hours or until the gelatin eggs are completely firm.
  6. Remove from Molds: Once fully set, gently remove the gelatin eggs from the plastic molds or carefully peel away the eggshell if using real eggshell molds.
  7. Serve: Serve the rainbow jello eggs chilled as a delightful and colorful dessert.

Notes

  • Using clear plastic egg molds helps create smooth, colorful, and visually appealing layers.
  • If using real eggshells, rinse thoroughly and carefully make a small hole at the top to remove the egg contents before filling with gelatin.
  • Allow each layer to partially set but remain tacky before adding the next color to ensure the layers adhere without mixing.
  • Handle the gelatin eggs gently when removing from molds to preserve their shape and colors.
