Description

This Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce is a vibrant and spicy condiment that perfectly balances the sweetness of fresh pineapple with the fiery kick of habanero peppers. With a tangy blend of lime juice and vinegar, mellowed by sautéed onions and garlic, this homemade hot sauce adds a delicious tropical heat to any dish. Easy to make in under 35 minutes, it’s perfect for those who love a flavorful, fresh, and fiery sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh pineapple, chopped
  • 2-3 habanero peppers, stemmed and seeded (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Chop the fresh pineapple into small pieces, stem and seed 2-3 habanero peppers according to your spice tolerance, mince the garlic cloves, and finely chop the small onion.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Heat a small amount of oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until softened and fragrant, roughly 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. Combine and Simmer: Add the chopped pineapple, habanero peppers, white vinegar, lime juice, and salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine all ingredients, then let the mixture simmer gently for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Blend the Sauce: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly for a few minutes. Transfer the mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender to purée until the sauce is smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of vinegar or water to reach your desired consistency.
  5. Adjust Seasoning and Sweetness: Taste the blended sauce and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt or lime juice if needed. If a sweeter flavor is desired, add 1 tablespoon of honey and blend again until fully incorporated.
  6. Bottle and Store: Pour the finished sauce into sterilized bottles or jars. Allow to cool completely before sealing the containers. Store the pineapple habanero hot sauce in the refrigerator where it will keep well for 2-3 weeks.

Notes

  • For less heat, reduce the number of habanero peppers or include some with seeds removed.
  • The honey is optional but helps balance the heat with sweetness.
  • Use fresh pineapple for the best flavor; canned pineapple will alter the texture and taste.
  • Sterilize bottles or jars by boiling them in water or washing in a dishwasher on a high heat setting to ensure safe storage.
  • This sauce is excellent on grilled meats, tacos, and as a zesty condiment for sandwiches.
