Description

Delight in these McGriddle Muffins that combine fluffy maple-infused muffins with savory sausage and melted cheddar cheese, perfect for a satisfying breakfast on the go. Easy to bake and freezer-friendly, these muffins capture the nostalgic flavors of classic breakfast sandwiches in a convenient handheld form.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (plus more for serving)

Fillings

  • 6 fully cooked sausage patties (or bacon strips, optional)
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and either grease a 6-cup muffin tin or line it with silicone liners to ensure the muffins don’t stick.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, making sure they are evenly combined for uniform leavening.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and maple syrup until the mixture is smooth and fully blended, adding moisture and sweetness to the batter.
  4. Mix Batter: Gently pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, taking care not to overmix to keep the muffins tender and fluffy.
  5. Assemble Muffins: Spoon about a tablespoon of batter into each muffin cup. Place a cooked sausage patty (or a piece of bacon) on top, then add half a slice of cheddar cheese if desired. Cover with another tablespoon of batter to encase the filling.
  6. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the muffins turn golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the muffin away from the sausage filling comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the muffins to cool slightly in the tin before removing. Serve warm with extra maple syrup on the side for dipping to enhance their sweet and savory flavor combination.

Notes

  • These muffins freeze well; reheat in the microwave for 30–45 seconds for a quick meal.
