Description

This Hot Honey Chicken recipe features crispy air-fried chicken breasts coated in a flavorful flour and spice dredge, then glazed with a sweet and spicy hot honey sauce. Perfectly tender on the inside and caramelized on the outside, this dish is quick to prepare and ideal for a delicious weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Coating

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut in half
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Hot Honey Sauce

  • ¼ cup hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Marinate Chicken: Place the halved chicken breasts in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight to tenderize and flavor the chicken.
  2. Dredge Chicken: In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove chicken from the buttermilk, shaking off excess liquid, then coat each piece thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  3. Air Fry Chicken: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the coated chicken pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking spray. Cook for 12-15 minutes until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Make Hot Honey Sauce: While the chicken cooks, combine hot sauce, honey, unsalted butter, chili powder, and garlic powder in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally until the butter has melted and the sauce is smooth and well blended.
  5. Glaze and Finish: Once the chicken is cooked, drizzle the prepared hot honey sauce evenly over the pieces in the air fryer basket. Return to the air fryer and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and caramelized on the chicken.
  6. Serve: Remove the chicken from the air fryer, garnish with chopped fresh parsley, and serve hot for a delicious, spicy-sweet meal.

Notes

  • You can marinate the chicken overnight for extra tenderness and flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce and honey to control the heat and sweetness level to your preference.
  • Use cooking spray to help create a crispy coating and prevent sticking in the air fryer.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake the chicken in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway.
