Description

A deliciously savory and sweet breakfast toast combining crispy pan-fried halloumi cheese, creamy mashed avocado, and a drizzle of spicy hot honey on toasted sourdough bread. This quick and easy recipe offers a perfect balance of textures and flavors, ideal for a satisfying morning meal or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale

Toast

  • 4 slices sourdough bread

Avocado Spread

  • 1 ripe avocado, mashed
  • Fresh lemon juice, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Halloumi

  • 6 ounces halloumi cheese, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Toppings

  • 2 tablespoons hot honey (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • Microgreens or fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Toast the sourdough: Toast the 4 slices of sourdough bread until they reach your preferred level of crispness, either in a toaster or on a skillet.
  2. Pan-fry the halloumi: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the halloumi slices and cook for 2–3 minutes per side or until each side turns golden brown and crispy.
  3. Prepare the avocado mash: While the halloumi is cooking, mash the ripe avocado in a bowl. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice along with salt and black pepper to taste, then mix well.
  4. Assemble the toast: Evenly spread the mashed avocado onto each of the toasted sourdough slices.
  5. Add the halloumi topping: Place a few crispy halloumi slices on top of the avocado-covered toast slices.
  6. Drizzle and garnish: Generously drizzle hot honey over the halloumi and sprinkle with chili flakes if desired. Finish by garnishing with microgreens or fresh herbs if using.
  7. Serve immediately: Enjoy the toast fresh to appreciate the combination of warm cheese and cool avocado with a honey-spicy kick.

Notes

  • You can make your own hot honey by gently warming honey with a pinch of chili flakes to infuse the spice.
  • For extra texture and flavor, add sliced radishes or pickled onions as toppings.
  • This recipe works wonderfully with multigrain or rye bread instead of sourdough.
