These Honey Lime Chicken Wonton Tacos are a delightful appetizer featuring crispy baked wonton shells filled with a sweet and tangy honey lime chicken mixture, topped with a fresh cilantro coleslaw. Perfect for parties or game day snacks, these bite-sized tacos offer a unique Asian-inspired twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Wonton Shells

  • 12 square wonton wrappers
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Nonstick cooking spray (for greasing the pan)

Honey Lime Chicken Filling

  • 1/2 pound cooked chicken breast, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

Cilantro Coleslaw Topping

  • 1/2 cup coleslaw mix
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Shells: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a mini muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray. Press each wonton wrapper gently into the muffin cups to form a taco shell shape.
  2. Bake Wonton Shells: Bake the wonton wrappers for 7–9 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crisp. Once baked, allow them to cool in the pan to maintain their shape and crispness.
  3. Make Honey Lime Chicken: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken with honey, soy sauce, fresh lime juice, lime zest, garlic powder, and chili flakes if you prefer a bit of heat. Mix until well coated.
  4. Prepare Cilantro Coleslaw: In a separate small bowl, mix together the coleslaw mix, chopped fresh cilantro, mayonnaise, and rice vinegar. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste.
  5. Assemble Tacos: Fill each cooled wonton cup with a spoonful of the honey lime chicken mixture, then top with a small amount of the cilantro coleslaw for freshness and crunch.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Optionally garnish with extra fresh cilantro leaves or a drizzle of sriracha for added flavor and spice. Serve the mini tacos immediately to enjoy their crisp texture.

Notes

  • These bite-sized tacos are perfect for parties or game day snacks.
  • You can make the wonton shells ahead of time and store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Try swapping the chicken for shrimp or tofu for a delicious variation.
