Description

Creamy and naturally sweet Honey Butter Mashed Sweet Potatoes made with tender sweet potatoes, rich butter, fragrant cinnamon, and a touch of honey for a perfect side dish that’s easy to prepare and comforting to eat.

Ingredients

Scale

Sweet Potatoes

  • 3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup milk (more as needed)

Spices & Seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: Place peeled and chunked sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water.
  2. Cook the Sweet Potatoes: Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the sweet potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drain and Return Sweet Potatoes: Drain the cooked sweet potatoes thoroughly and return them to the pot for mashing.
  4. Add Flavorings: Add the unsalted butter, honey, milk, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to the sweet potatoes.
  5. Mash Until Smooth: Mash the mixture with a potato masher or electric mixer until smooth and creamy, adding more milk if needed to achieve desired consistency. Taste and adjust salt as necessary.
  6. Serve Warm: Transfer the mashed sweet potatoes to a serving bowl and serve warm. Optionally, garnish with extra butter and honey for added richness and sweetness.

Notes

  • Use whole milk or any milk of choice to adjust creaminess and fat content.
  • For a richer flavor, brown the butter before adding.
  • Sweet potatoes should be peeled thoroughly for the smoothest texture.
  • Adjust honey amount depending on desired sweetness.
  • This dish pairs well with roasted meats and vegetables.
