Ingredients

Whole Wheat Pasta:

8 ounces;

Broccoli Florets:

3 cups;

Olive Oil:

2 tablespoons;

Garlic Cloves, minced:

3;

Red Pepper Flakes (optional):

1/4 teaspoon;

Grated Parmesan Cheese:

1/4 cup;

Lemon Juice:

juice of half a lemon;

Salt and Black Pepper:

to taste;

Toasted Pine Nuts (optional):

2 tablespoons


Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Boil whole wheat pasta until al dente. Add broccoli in the last 3 minutes of cooking. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup pasta water.
  2. Sauté: In a skillet, sauté garlic and red pepper flakes in olive oil. Add pasta, broccoli, and reserved water. Toss.
  3. Finish: Stir in lemon juice, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat, top with pine nuts.
