Ingredients
Scale
Chocolate Coating
- ¼ cup salted butter
- ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Cereal and Mix-ins
- 9 cups rice Chex cereal
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup candy corn
- ½ cup candy corn pumpkins
- ½ cup Reese’s peanut butter mini pumpkins
- 1 cup Reese’s pieces
Instructions
- Prepare the Chocolate Mixture: Combine the salted butter, peanut butter, and milk chocolate chips in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds, then stir well. Microwave for an additional 20 seconds or until fully melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract thoroughly to combine all flavors.
- Coat the Cereal: In a large bowl, add the rice Chex cereal. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently stir until all pieces are evenly coated with the chocolate-peanut butter mixture.
- Add Powdered Sugar: Transfer half of the coated cereal mixture into a large gallon-sized Ziplock bag. Add half of the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake vigorously to coat the cereal completely. Pour the coated cereal into a large bowl. Repeat the process with the remaining cereal and powdered sugar for full coverage.
- Mix in Candies: Gently fold in the candy corn, candy corn pumpkins, Reese’s peanut butter mini pumpkins, and Reese’s pieces into the powdered sugar-coated cereal mixture until evenly distributed.
- Set the Muddy Buddies: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the Halloween Muddy Buddies out into an even layer on the baking sheet. Allow them to rest undisturbed for about 30 minutes so the coating can set before serving. Enjoy your festive treat!
Notes
- For best results, use creamy peanut butter rather than chunky for a smooth coating.
- Shaking the cereal in the Ziplock bags thoroughly ensures an even coating of powdered sugar.
- Feel free to add sprinkles or other Halloween-themed candies to customize the mix.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain crunchiness.
- This recipe is perfect for parties, school treats, or a fun family snack during the Halloween season.
