Description

Delightful Guava and Cheese Pastries featuring flaky puff pastry filled with creamy sweetened cream cheese and luscious guava paste, baked to golden perfection. These easy-to-make treats are perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry

Filling

  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 7 oz guava paste, cut into small pieces

Other

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Flour (for dusting surface)
  • Simple syrup (for brushing, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, mix the cream cheese and sugar until smooth and fluffy to create a sweet and creamy filling.
  2. Roll Out Puff Pastry: Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Gently roll out the puff pastry sheet, taking care not to make it too thin to maintain its structure during baking.
  3. Cut Pastry Pieces: Cut the puff pastry into equal-sized pieces. Each pastry will require two pieces – one for the bottom and one for the top.
  4. Assemble Pastries: Pipe or spoon the cream cheese mixture onto the bottom pastry piece. Then, place 2 to 3 small pieces of guava paste over the cream cheese.
  5. Seal Pastries: Brush the edges of the bottom piece with the egg wash, then cover it with the top pastry piece. Press the sides firmly to seal completely and prevent leakage during baking.
  6. Add Ventilation Slits and Egg Wash: Cut two to three small slits on top of each pastry to allow steam to escape while baking. Brush the tops with more egg wash to help develop a golden, shiny crust.
  7. Chill Pastries: Place the assembled pastries in the refrigerator and chill for 20 to 30 minutes to help puff pastry rise better during baking.
  8. Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the pastries for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Finish and Serve: Let the baked pastries cool for 5 minutes. Optionally, brush the tops with simple syrup to give them a sweet, glossy finish.

Notes

  • You can use store-bought or homemade puff pastry sheets.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar in the cream cheese filling based on your sweetness preference.
  • Simple syrup for brushing is optional but adds a beautiful shine and extra sweetness.
  • Use cold puff pastry and chilled filling to help create maximum puffiness.
  • These pastries are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
