  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 cup long grain white rice (such as basmati or jasmine)
  • 2 cups water or chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  2. Stir in turmeric and toast for 30 seconds. Add rice and stir to coat the grains evenly with the garlic and turmeric mixture.
  3. Pour in water or broth, add salt and pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
