Scale
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 cup long grain white rice (such as basmati or jasmine)
- 2 cups water or chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
- Chopped fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- Stir in turmeric and toast for 30 seconds. Add rice and stir to coat the grains evenly with the garlic and turmeric mixture.
- Pour in water or broth, add salt and pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–18 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let rest covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork, stir in butter if using, and garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, cook the rice in full chicken or vegetable broth instead of water.
- Add peas or sautéed onions for variation.
