Description

This Garlic Parmesan Pizza Grilled Cheese is a deliciously indulgent twist on classic grilled cheese and pizza combined into one. Featuring golden, buttery bread coated with a flavorful garlic Parmesan mixture and stacked with melty mozzarella, tangy pizza sauce, and zesty pepperoni, it’s a perfect quick meal that satisfies pizza and comfort food cravings alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Garlic Parmesan Butter Mixture

  • 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Sandwich

  • 8 thick slices sturdy bread (sourdough or Italian)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pizza or marinara sauce
  • 24 thin slices pepperoni

Instructions

  1. Preheat Skillet: Warm a large skillet or griddle over medium-low heat to prepare for cooking your grilled cheese sandwiches.
  2. Prepare Butter Mixture: In a bowl, combine the softened butter, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt until thoroughly mixed to create the garlic Parmesan butter.
  3. Butter Bread Slices: Spread half of the garlic Parmesan butter mixture on one side of 4 bread slices. Place these slices buttered side down into the warmed skillet.
  4. Assemble Sandwich Layers: On each bread slice in the skillet, spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce, add 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, layer 6 slices of pepperoni, then top with the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly.
  5. Top and Butter Remaining Bread: Spread pizza sauce on one side of the remaining 4 bread slices and place them sauce side down atop the cheese and pepperoni layers. Then spread the remaining garlic Parmesan butter on the top side of these bread slices.
  6. Cook Sandwiches: Cook the assembled sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, adjusting heat as necessary to avoid burning.
  7. Serve: Allow the sandwiches to cool slightly, then cut each in half. Serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping to enhance the flavor experience.

Notes

  • Use sturdy bread like sourdough or Italian to prevent sogginess from the sauce.
  • Adjust pepperoni slices quantity based on preference or omit for a vegetarian option.
  • Maintain medium-low heat to ensure even melting without burning the bread.
  • Extra garlic Parmesan butter can be made for dipping or spreading.
  • For a crispier crust, press sandwiches lightly with a spatula while cooking.
