Ingredients
Scale
Garlic Parmesan Butter Mixture
- 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Sandwich
- 8 thick slices sturdy bread (sourdough or Italian)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup pizza or marinara sauce
- 24 thin slices pepperoni
Instructions
- Preheat Skillet: Warm a large skillet or griddle over medium-low heat to prepare for cooking your grilled cheese sandwiches.
- Prepare Butter Mixture: In a bowl, combine the softened butter, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt until thoroughly mixed to create the garlic Parmesan butter.
- Butter Bread Slices: Spread half of the garlic Parmesan butter mixture on one side of 4 bread slices. Place these slices buttered side down into the warmed skillet.
- Assemble Sandwich Layers: On each bread slice in the skillet, spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce, add 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, layer 6 slices of pepperoni, then top with the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly.
- Top and Butter Remaining Bread: Spread pizza sauce on one side of the remaining 4 bread slices and place them sauce side down atop the cheese and pepperoni layers. Then spread the remaining garlic Parmesan butter on the top side of these bread slices.
- Cook Sandwiches: Cook the assembled sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, adjusting heat as necessary to avoid burning.
- Serve: Allow the sandwiches to cool slightly, then cut each in half. Serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping to enhance the flavor experience.
Notes
- Use sturdy bread like sourdough or Italian to prevent sogginess from the sauce.
- Adjust pepperoni slices quantity based on preference or omit for a vegetarian option.
- Maintain medium-low heat to ensure even melting without burning the bread.
- Extra garlic Parmesan butter can be made for dipping or spreading.
- For a crispier crust, press sandwiches lightly with a spatula while cooking.
