For the Brownies:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (chopped or chips)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons instant coffee or espresso powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Coffee Frosting:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon brewed espresso or strong coffee (cooled)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 teaspoons milk (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Melt chocolate and butter: In a saucepan, melt butter and chocolate together until smooth. Remove from heat.
- Mix brownie batter: Whisk in sugars, eggs, vanilla, and coffee powder. Sift in flour, cocoa, and salt. Stir to combine.
- Bake: Pour batter into pan, bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool.
- Make frosting: Beat butter, add powdered sugar, coffee, vanilla, and milk for consistency.
- Frost brownies: Spread frosting over cooled brownies. Slice and serve.
