Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest.
- Cut in butter: Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour into the dry mixture and stir just until combined.
- Knead and shape: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, knead lightly, pat into a circle, and cut into wedges.
- Bake: Place scones on the prepared baking sheet, brush with cream, and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- Make glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice. Drizzle over cooled scones.
