Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Melt butter in a skillet, add onions, sugar, salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook for 25–30 minutes until caramelized.
- Assemble the sandwich: Spread mayonnaise on bread slices. Layer cheese, caramelized onions, more cheese. Top with bread.
- Grill the sandwich: Cook in buttered skillet until golden brown and crispy, about 3–4 minutes per side.
