Description

These Easy Churro Bites are a delightful and quick dessert featuring crispy fried dough coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect for satisfying sweet cravings, they are simple to make with pantry staples and offer a bite-sized twist on the classic Mexican churro.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Frying and Coating

  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine water, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, salt, and unsalted butter. Bring this mixture to a boil, ensuring the butter fully melts.
  2. Make the dough: Reduce the heat to low and stir in the all-purpose flour all at once. Continue stirring vigorously until the dough forms a ball and pulls away cleanly from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes.
  3. Incorporate egg and vanilla: Transfer the slightly cooled dough to a mixing bowl. Beat in the large egg and vanilla extract until the dough is smooth and fully combined, creating a pipeable consistency.
  4. Heat the oil: In a deep pan or heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain consistent temperature for perfect frying.
  5. Fry the churro bites: Spoon or pipe small portions of the dough directly into the hot oil in batches, taking care not to overcrowd. Fry each side for about 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Drain excess oil: Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried churro bites and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil and cool slightly.
  7. Coat in cinnamon sugar: In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Roll each warm churro bite in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  8. Serve: Serve the churro bites immediately, optionally with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping for an enhanced flavor experience.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, serve with chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping.
  • Ensure oil temperature stays consistent to avoid greasy churros.
  • Dough should be thick but pipeable for easy shaping.
