Description

This delightful Easter Dirt Cake Casserole is a no-bake dessert perfect for spring celebrations. Featuring a creamy pudding and cream cheese filling layered between crushed Golden Oreos, it’s topped with festive pastel candies and optional coconut grass for a fun, eye-catching treat. Easy to prepare and made ahead, this casserole is a crowd-pleaser with rich flavors and a playful presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 (14 oz) package Golden Oreos

Filling

  • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 (3.4 oz) boxes instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2¾ cups cold milk
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

Toppings & Decoration

  • Pastel-colored M&M’s or candy eggs
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut (optional)
  • Green food coloring (optional)
  • Marshmallow chicks or bunnies (optional for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Crush the Oreos: Using a food processor or sealing the Golden Oreos in a bag, crush them into fine crumbs with a rolling pin. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the cream cheese mixture: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Make the pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with cold milk until thickened, approximately 2 minutes.
  4. Combine mixtures: Fold the thickened pudding into the cream cheese mixture gently, then carefully fold in the whipped topping until everything is evenly blended.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Spread half of the crushed Oreo crumbs in the bottom of a 9×13-inch casserole dish. Evenly spoon the pudding filling over the crumbs, then sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreos on top.
  6. Add decorations: If using, tint shredded coconut with green food coloring to create coconut grass and sprinkle it evenly over the top. Decorate with pastel candy eggs, M&M’s, and marshmallow chicks or bunnies to create a festive Easter scene.
  7. Chill: Refrigerate the casserole for at least 2 hours to allow it to set properly. Serve chilled.

Notes

  • Golden Oreos can be swapped for classic chocolate Oreos to create a traditional dirt cake flavor.
  • This dessert can be prepared a day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator for convenience.
  • Green food coloring and coconut are optional but add a festive decorative touch.
  • Ensure the cream cheese and butter are softened for a smooth mixture.
