Description

Creamy Garlic Shrimp is a quick and delicious Italian American main course featuring succulent shrimp cooked in a rich garlic cream sauce with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, this dish combines tender shrimp with a velvety sauce that pairs beautifully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Cooking Fat

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Sauce

  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Cook the shrimp. Heat the butter and olive oil together in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the shrimp with salt and black pepper, then add them to the skillet. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté the garlic. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes if using. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  3. Deglaze and simmer. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a gentle simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet to add flavor to the sauce.
  4. Create the creamy sauce. Reduce the heat to low, then stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  5. Return shrimp to the sauce. Add the cooked shrimp back to the skillet and toss them in the sauce to coat evenly.
  6. Finish the dish. Stir in the lemon juice and the chopped fresh parsley. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until everything is heated through.
  7. Serve. Serve the creamy garlic shrimp immediately, ideally over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of white wine to the sauce before adding the cream.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes according to your preferred heat level.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with linguine or fettuccine pasta.
