Ingredients
Scale
For the Bananas Foster:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- 1/4 cup banana liqueur
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise
For Serving:
- Vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Melt Butter: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add Sugar & Cinnamon: Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, cook until sugar dissolves and mixture is bubbly, about 2–3 minutes.
- Combine Liqueur: Add banana liqueur, stir to combine.
- Cook Bananas: Place bananas in skillet, cook for 1–2 minutes per side until just softened.
- Flambé: Carefully add dark rum, tilt skillet slightly, and ignite alcohol using a long lighter. Allow flames to subside naturally, about 30 seconds.
- Serve: Remove from heat, serve bananas immediately over scoops of vanilla ice cream, spooning warm sauce over the top.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, replace the rum and banana liqueur with equal parts banana extract and apple juice.
- Always use caution when flambéing—keep a lid nearby to smother flames if needed.
