Cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Mousse:

  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Preheat the oven, prepare cake pans, mix dry ingredients, beat butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla, alternate dry ingredients with buttermilk, stir in hot water, divide and bake.
