Description

A chicken wing boil is a bold and flavorful twist on the classic seafood boil, featuring tender, juicy chicken wings simmered in a seasoned broth with corn, potatoes, sausage, and a rich garlic butter sauce. Perfect for casual gatherings, game days, or backyard feasts, this one-pot dish delivers a hearty, satisfying meal with southern-inspired spices.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Boil

  • 2 pounds chicken wings (split at joints, tips removed)
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 pound baby potatoes (halved)
  • 3 ears corn (cut into thirds)
  • 12 oz smoked sausage (sliced)

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Broth: In a large stockpot, combine the chicken broth, water, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and crushed red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat.
  2. Cook the Chicken Wings: Add the chicken wings to the boiling broth. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the wings simmer gently for 20 minutes, allowing them to absorb the flavorful spices and cook through.
  3. Add Potatoes: After 20 minutes, add the halved baby potatoes to the pot. Continue simmering for 10 minutes until the potatoes start to become tender.
  4. Add Corn and Sausage: Incorporate the cut corn and sliced smoked sausage into the pot. Simmer everything together for an additional 10 to 12 minutes, or until all ingredients are tender and cooked through.
  5. Make Garlic Butter Sauce: While the boil simmers, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant but not browned. Stir in the lemon juice and season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Drain the chicken wing boil and transfer all components to a large serving platter or bowl. Drizzle the garlic butter sauce evenly over the top. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the Cajun seasoning or red pepper flakes according to your preference.
  • Serve with lemon wedges, crusty bread, or rice on the side for a more complete meal experience.
  • For an extra smoky kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce or include smoked sausage with jalapeños.
  • To make this dish dairy-free, omit the butter or substitute with a dairy-free alternative.
