Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 1 1/8 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup warm water (divided)
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 1/2 – 2 cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
Topping
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons salted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/3 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine 1/2 cup warm water with sugar and yeast. Stir and let rest for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Make Dough: Add remaining 1/4 cup warm water, olive oil, salt, and vinegar to the yeast mixture. Mix on medium-low speed while gradually adding flour. Knead for a few minutes until smooth, elastic, and slightly sticky dough forms. Cover with a dry towel and let it rest in a warm spot for 1 hour to rise.
- Preheat Oven: Heat oven to 475°F with a pizza stone or upside down cookie sheet inside to ensure a hot baking surface.
- Shape Dough: Punch down the risen dough gently. Place parchment paper on your counter and spread dough by hand into a 1/3-inch thick rectangle.
- Prepare Topping: Mix melted butter with minced garlic. Spread this mixture evenly over the dough, reaching the edges. Sprinkle with parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
- Bake Breadsticks: Transfer the dough on the parchment paper onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve warm with dipping sauces like marinara or ranch for extra flavor.
Notes
- Ensure the water is warm (not hot) to properly activate the yeast.
- The dough should be slightly sticky but not so much that it sticks to your finger when poked.
- If you don’t have a pizza stone, use an upside down cookie sheet as a substitute for even heat distribution.
- Adjust the flour quantity as needed depending on humidity and flour type for perfect dough texture.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle some dried herbs like oregano or parsley on top before baking.
- Allow the breadsticks to rest for a few minutes before slicing for easier handling.
