Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, cooked and shredded
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Buns & Topping
- 8 soft dinner rolls or slider buns
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the filled buns.
- Sauté Vegetables: In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté the finely chopped onion and red bell pepper until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add Seasonings: Add minced garlic, paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper if using. Stir well and cook for another minute to release the flavors.
- Mix Filling: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in shredded chicken, mayonnaise, softened cream cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined and creamy.
- Prepare Buns: Slice the buns horizontally in half without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket for the filling.
- Fill Buns: Spoon a generous amount of the chicken mixture into each bun, filling them evenly.
- Arrange & Butter: Place the filled buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with dried parsley for garnish.
- Bake: Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can use rotisserie chicken for convenience and time-saving.
- Add chopped cooked bacon to the filling for an extra burst of flavor.
- Swap cheddar cheese with mozzarella or pepper jack cheese depending on your preference for a different flavor profile.
