Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, cut into cubes
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Assembly
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Extra balsamic glaze and fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal squares.
- Assemble bundles: Place a few cubes of fresh mozzarella, several halved cherry tomatoes, and a pinch of chopped basil in the center of each pastry square. Lightly drizzle with balsamic glaze and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Shape bundles: Fold the corners of each square toward the center, gently pinching or twisting to seal the filling inside and form a neat bundle. Brush the tops of each bundle with the beaten egg to help achieve a golden-brown finish.
- Bake: Arrange the bundles on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and garnish: Allow the bundles to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, drizzle with extra balsamic glaze and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves for an elegant presentation and enhanced flavor.
Notes
- Serve these puff pastry bundles warm to best enjoy the melty mozzarella and flaky crust.
- These can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving to save time.
- For extra flavor, consider adding prosciutto or a smear of pesto inside the bundles before baking.
