Description

Delight in these easy-to-make Caprese Puff Pastry Bundles, featuring a flaky puff pastry crust filled with fresh mozzarella, juicy cherry tomatoes, and aromatic basil, all enhanced with a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Perfect as a warm appetizer or side dish, these Italian-inspired bundles bring classic Caprese flavors into a fun, bite-sized treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed

Filling

  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembly

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Extra balsamic glaze and fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal squares.
  3. Assemble bundles: Place a few cubes of fresh mozzarella, several halved cherry tomatoes, and a pinch of chopped basil in the center of each pastry square. Lightly drizzle with balsamic glaze and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Shape bundles: Fold the corners of each square toward the center, gently pinching or twisting to seal the filling inside and form a neat bundle. Brush the tops of each bundle with the beaten egg to help achieve a golden-brown finish.
  5. Bake: Arrange the bundles on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  6. Cool and garnish: Allow the bundles to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, drizzle with extra balsamic glaze and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves for an elegant presentation and enhanced flavor.

Notes

  • Serve these puff pastry bundles warm to best enjoy the melty mozzarella and flaky crust.
  • These can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving to save time.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding prosciutto or a smear of pesto inside the bundles before baking.
