Description

This Broccoli Cheddar Quiche recipe is a delightful and easy-to-make dish perfect for brunch, lunch, or a light dinner. Featuring a flaky pie crust filled with tender broccoli, savory sautéed onions, and sharp cheddar cheese, all enveloped in a creamy egg custard, it offers a satisfying combination of flavors and textures. The quiche is baked to a golden finish and can be served warm or at room temperature, making it versatile and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 9-inch pie crust

Filling

  • 1 1/2 cups broccoli florets, chopped small
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped

Egg Mixture

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges to prepare for filling.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened and translucent. Then add the chopped broccoli and sauté for another 3 to 4 minutes until slightly tender. Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Arrange Filling: Sprinkle the cooked broccoli and onion mixture evenly into the prepared pie crust. Follow by evenly distributing the shredded sharp cheddar cheese on top of the vegetables.
  4. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  5. Fill and Bake: Carefully pour the egg mixture over the broccoli, onion, and cheese in the pie crust, ensuring an even layer. Place the quiche carefully into the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the custard is set in the center and the top is lightly golden brown.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the quiche from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. This resting time helps the custard to set further, making slices hold their shape. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • To avoid spillage, do not overfill the pie crust with the filling mixture.
  • For a lighter option, half-and-half can be substituted for the milk and cream.
  • Consider adding cooked bacon or ham for extra flavor and protein.
  • This quiche can be served warm, at room temperature, or chilled for convenience.
