Dough Ingredients
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 3/4 cup Warm Water (110°F)
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Instant Yeast
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
Cheese
- 1 cup Shredded Cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active and ready.
- Make the dough: Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a smooth dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 8 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth, ensuring good gluten development for a light texture.
- First rise: Lightly oil a bowl and place the dough inside. Cover it with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the buns: After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air. Divide the dough into small portions and shape each into a ball. Place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them adequately.
- Bake the buns: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the buns for 15 to 20 minutes or until they turn golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped.
Notes
- You can mix the shredded cheese directly into the dough during kneading for even distribution, or sprinkle on top just before baking for a cheesy crust.
- Use warm water at around 110°F to activate the yeast properly but avoid killing it with water that is too hot.
- Letting the dough rise longer can improve texture and flavor if time permits.
- Store baked buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
- For a richer flavor, substitute some of the olive oil with melted butter.
