Ingredients
Pizza Dough:
1 ball (about 10–12 oz) pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
Tomato Sauce:
½ cup San Marzano crushed tomatoes or high-quality canned tomatoes
Toppings:
8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced; 6–8 fresh basil leaves; 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil; pinch of sea salt; optional: dusting of semolina or cornmeal for baking surface
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) or the highest temperature it allows, placing a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a 10–12 inch round.
- Add Sauce and Toppings: Spread the crushed tomatoes evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Lightly salt the tomato layer. Arrange the mozzarella slices evenly on top.
- Bake the Pizza: Slide the pizza onto the hot stone or baking sheet and bake for 7–10 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of olive oil. Slice and serve hot.
Notes
- Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the most authentic flavor.
- For a crispier crust, preheat the stone or steel thoroughly.
- Fresh mozzarella may release some moisture—dab lightly with a paper towel if needed.
