Description

Indulge in the creamy, cheesy goodness of these Asiago Creamy Baked Onions. Sweet onions bathed in a luscious cream sauce with hints of Dijon mustard and garlic, topped with a blanket of melted Asiago cheese. A perfect side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Onions:

  • 4 large sweet onions (such as Vidalia), peeled and halved crosswise

Cream Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup grated Asiago cheese, divided

Garnish:

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a medium baking dish.
  2. Prepare onions: Arrange onion halves cut-side up in the dish.
  3. Make cream sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, add cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, white pepper, salt. Simmer, then stir in 1/2 cup Asiago until smooth.
  4. Coat onions: Pour cream mixture over onions, cover with foil, and bake for 35–40 minutes until tender.
  5. Add cheese: Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup Asiago over onions, bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes until golden.
  6. Serve: Rest for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra depth of flavor, caramelize onion halves before baking.
  • Pairs well with roasted meats or holiday entrees.
