For the Bars:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 2 tablespoons coarse sugar or sanding sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and almond extract, mix well.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, forming a dough.
- Press into pan: Press dough into the prepared pan. Top with almonds and sugar.
- Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden. Cool completely before slicing.
